CHAIRPOP

Presented by Cardpop™

The Manifesto of

CARDPOP:

CHAIRPOP is a multipurpose chair produced by CardPop™ made completely out of cardboard. It was constructed with water-activated tape & hot glue, paper maché using newspapers in certain areas, and painted with acrylic paint. In the front, there is also a cardboard constructed drawer that can be slid in and out of the hole so users can store items. On the back of the chair there is a hooker hanger for users to hook objects, clothing, etc. onto it. While the whole chair (including drawer and hooker hanger) are made completely out of cardboard, it is all very supported with cardboard ribs that support weight. While the chair supports weight, it is able to support the intended use; sitting on it. Extreme force and damage may break the chair. 'CHAIRPOP' will be showcased and auctioned.

The Process of Birthing and Creating

CHAIRPOP:

Plan & Design:

Create & Construct:

After designing, we had to cut out cardboard to match the dimensions of the faces and ribs planned. When every piece of a separate section (e.g. the back seat wall, the hooker hanger, the drawer, etc.) was cut out, one person would starts constructing the section by hot gluing and taping faces and ribs. After that, the person would continue to help cutting out pieces. After all was cut, everyone built and constructed according to the plan by placing, hot gluing, and taping. However, because of variables we didn't think of such as not enough support present, bending cardboard, half of the chair collapsing because of the absence of support, etc. we had to change a few things along the way such as cutting & adding more support, removing a function, etc.

Paper Mache and Paint:

After the drawer was fully constructed (since it was a seperate piece from the chair), it was put through the paper mache process and then painted first to save time. Because of limited time for the building, paper mache, and painting process, nearing the end we put the bare minimum paper of mache on the chair where absolute necessary because of pealing tape, some holes, etc. The chair was then painted a base coat of black and streaks of light blue and pink along the edges to match our logo, which was printed & modge podged onto the back seat wall of CHAIRPOP. After drying, that concluded the complete construction of CHAIRPOP and we put more focus onto creating this website and promotional materials.

About Us

Cardpop™

CardPop™

CardPop™ was created as a furniture industry to use discarded everyday items and reuse them to upcycle to a high quality more popular piece of furniture. For example, for 'CHAIRPOP', a multi-purpose chair, cardboard was used. Cardboard is a common discarded recyclable material/resource that while recyclable, still usually ends up in landfills because of an abundance in the quantity, not being put in the recycling bin, and being contaminated with paints, oils, plastics, or other materials. So we decided to create a multifunctional chair from the cardboard; henceforth producing 'CHAIRPOP'.
